VENICE CANALS

Residential Renovation, Furniture Design 2019

Venice, Los Angeles CA

The Venice Canals Historic district in southern California is an iconic neighborhood, originally built in 1905 by developer Abbot Kinney as part of his Venice in America project. This home is nestled on the Canal junction and was in major disrepair when our clients purchased it with the hopes of creating a weekend escape. Wanting to create an airy and unfettered space for unwinding, we went to work opening up walls and ceilings and selecting serene finishes that carry from indoor to out supporting the SoCal outdoor lifestyle.

We conjure up
sanctuary spaces
that realign the
mind, body, and spirit.

QUIET MATERIALITY WASHES THE SPACE IN WARM WHITES; LIMESTONE FLOORS, LIME-WASHED WALLS, AND RAW LINEN DRAPERY VISUALLY EXPAND THE PETITE INTERIOR.

WE MADE SPACE UNDER THE STAIRS TO TUCK A TINY JEWEL-BOX POWDER ROOM: BURSTING WITH LUXE MATERIALITY, MIXING ITALIAN BRECCIA AND HAND PAINTED TERRACOTTA TILES WITH CAST BRONZE FITTINGS.

BLACKENED OAK CABINETS, BRONZE MARBLE, AND SMOKED GLASS DEEPLY GROUND THE AIRY SPACE. THIS HIGHLY FUNCTIONAL KITCHEN CONCEALS BOTH APPLIANCES AND HIDDEN PASSAGES INTO THE GARAGE BEHIND. THE EXTRA LONG BUTCHERS ISLAND DESIGNED TO FEEL LIKE FURNITURE KEEPS THE TIGHT SPACE FEELING LIGHT.

We believe that negative space offers positive effects.

WATERPROOF PLASTER WRAPS ALL THE WALLS FLOORS AND CEILINGS IN THIS PRIMARY BATH. UPON THE CLIENT’S REQUEST TO BRUSH THEIR TEETH AL FRESCO, A DOOR WAS ADDED ONTO THE BALCONY GIVING ADDITIONAL LIGHT AND AIR INTO THE BATHROOM.
